MynameisHarryLin.OnMay25,1958,IwasborninXinying,alittletowninSouthernFujian.Myfatherisafarmer,plantingbananasandpineapples,andmymothertakescareofthehouse.Ihavetwobrothersandonesister.Thoughnotwell-to-do,myparentshavebeenabletoprovidethewholefamilywithsufficientmeanstolivedecentlyandenjoyallmodernconveniences. Myearlyeducationwasreceivedinmyhometown,i.e.sixyearsinprimaryschoolandthreeyearsinjuniormiddleschool.Aftercompletingnineyearsofformaleducationin1958.IwenttoXiamenandparticipatedinthejointentranceexaminationforfive-yearjuniorcolleges.Fortunately,IwasadmittedtotheDepartmentofElectricalEngineeringatXiamenJuniorEngineeringCollege.IchoseElectricalEngineeringasmymajorbecause,ontheonehand,IlikedPhysicsverymuch;andontheotherhand,electricalindustryisamajorsectoroftheeconomyofChina.
ThefiveyearsofintensivetrainingcametoanendinJune1978whenIreceivedadiploma.AndinJuly1980.IwashiredbyNanYaplasticCompanyandhaveservedasajuniorelectricalengineeratthecompanytothepresent.Ienjoytheworkandfeelcompetentforthejob.
Inworking,however,IveFoundthatwhatIhavelearnedinschoolislimitedandfarfromsufficienttohandlesophisticatedjobs.Therefore,IhavedecidedtoextendmyeducationandwouldliketoenteranAmericaninstitutionfirstlytoearnaBachelorsdegreeinElectricalEngineering.Then,ifpossible,IwouldliketocontinuemyeducationtowardaMastersdegree.
Afterthisobjectiveisreached,Iwillreturntomycountryandseekajobinapublicfirm.MostprobablyIwillcontinuetoworkwithNanYaPlasticCompany.
